Scream Left A Fun Kirby Easter Egg On The Cutting Room Floor

An easter egg in "Scream 5" led to the announcement that Kirby would return in "Scream VI," but if Radio Silence had their way, her return would've been given a much bigger teaser.
In a 2022 "Ask Me Anything," Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett’s filmmaking team responded to a fan’s question about their plans for Kirby in "Scream 5."
"In a deleted scene at the sheriff's [station], there was a Kirby missing poster behind Jasmin and Mikey," the team wrote, implying the initial plan for her role in the franchise.
In "Scream VI," Kirby has been living a straightforward life training and then working for the FBI. The missing poster in the cut scene hints that she's gone off the grid entirely.
While "Scream VI" teased the idea of her being a killer, that red herring would've worked better if it'd been pre-set that she once curiously vanished for a notable period of time.
The small Easter egg in "Scream 5" gave skeptical fans time to make peace with Kirby's miraculous survival, and allowed the film to introduce the new cast of characters properly.
