Saru’s Strange Walk In Star Trek: Discovery Came About By Accident

Actor Doug Jones played the Kelpien Starfleet officer Saru on "Star Trek: Discovery." His species had been bred to serve as food for another dominant species on his home planet.
To make Saru taller and more alien, the costumers outfitted Jones with shoes that resembled high heels but were missing heels, forcing Jones to walk on the balls of his feet.
Those shoes forced Jones to alter his gait dramatically, creating a unique "Saru walk." Jones would sashay with his arms dangling behind him.
In an interview with TrekNews, Jones said, "The 'Saru walk' [...] came about sixty seconds after putting on the costume, because of the way those boots kind of altered my posture."
