Ryan Gosling Wants Greta Gerwig's Barbie To Be A Redemption For Ken
By JENNA BUSCH
On "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," Ryan Gosling discussed his role of Ken Carson for the new “Barbie” film, as well as the sad fate of a Ken doll in his own home. He also revealed what he told the director Greta Gerwig (who also co-wrote the script with Noah Baumbach) when she offered him the role.
The actor said that when Gerwig called, he also got a sign from the universe: "I walk out in the backyard, and do you know where I found Ken, Jimmy? Facedown in the mud, next to a squished lemon." He then went on to say he feels like his character is underappreciated and that "he's an accessory and not even one of the cool ones."
Gosling humorously accepted the role by texting a picture of the discarded Ken doll to Gerwig, with the message: "I shall be your Ken, for his story must be told." The film is currently slated to release on July 21, 2023 — hopefully, at that point, his children will have a new appreciation for Ken.
