Robert Pattinson’s The Batman Screen Test Used Almost Every Past Bat-Suit

Auditioning to play Batman required Robert Pattinson to try on past Batman costumes for screen tests, and it was very important that Pattinson's head fit well in the bat cowl.
Pattinson didn’t get to try on Adam West’s costume, but he did try Val Kilmer and George Clooney’s former bat-suits, which he said still had the “actor's kind of sweat inside.”
Pattinson said that the bat-suit caretakers in the costume department “worked on every single one of the Batman movies,” adding, “They're like, ‘Do not mess these suits up.’”
He said, “You've got like three costume workers trying to squeeze your legs into this 30-year-old foam costume which is just disintegrating as you're getting into it.”
The fitting came down to the bat cowl, as Pattinson said, “It's the size of your head that's the defining factor.” He also had the same proportions as two previous Batman actors.
He shared, “[My] body fit more on Val Kilmer's one and [my] head fit of [George] Clooney's one, so they [...] Frankensteined it.” However, those actors’ proportions weren’t used.
Pattinson’s unique Batman suit ended up fitting him well. He recalled, “It really flowed. It was so well-designed, so articulated on all the joints. [...] It was kind of shocking.”
