Season 2 of “Yellowjackets.”
One of “Yellowjackets” recurring elements set up in the pilot episode is a soundtrack that consists of both ’90s classics and deep cuts, a tradition that continues in Season 2. As the show is set in the late ’90s — over 20 years ago — this could be the first time some viewers have heard these classics, and they may find themselves curious about the songs they heard in the new episode.
While the first song after the Season 1 recap isn’t from the ’90s, Sharon Van Etten’s 2019 single “Seventeen” is no less fitting as it plays over snowy landscapes and in the cabin, possibly hinting at Lottie’s impending rule. One ‘90s song that can be heard is Smashing Pumpkin’s “Drown” during the pivotal revelation between Shauna and the now-deceased Jackie.
Garbage’s “#1 Crush” also plays during the moment between Shauna and Jeff, serving as the perfect subtext to their intimate exchange, and is shortly followed by Jeff rocking out in his car to Papa Roach’s 2000 hit, “Last Resort.” The episode closes with Tori Amos’ classic “Cornflake Girl,” quite possibly the perfect tune to go with Shauna’s actions at the end of the episode.
