Ranking Every Season Of Bill Hader’s Barry
By VALERIE ETTENHOFER
4. Season 4
Season 4’s time jump may feel like one purposely alienating writing choice too many, but the finale is sweet and heartbreaking, abrupt and stressful, yet still funny.
Throughout the season, Bill Hader delivers flawless visuals that create dissonance, as the feelings they (and Barry himself) are meant to evoke grow more and more off-putting.
3. Season 2
Henry Winkler won an Emmy for the show's first season, but in its sophomore year, his performance is better than ever as Gene, a broken yet endlessly self-absorbed man.
"Ronny/lily" is the show's first dip into the surreal where Hader's directorial eye takes center stage, as does the show's bias for great action and well-oiled stunt choreography.
2. Season 1
In its first season, "Barry" felt like a show that intended to break down everything we thought we knew about comedy and antihero-driven drama and rebuild it.
On first watch, some of "Barry" season one feels imperfect, but those flaws would ultimately serve a story that would unfold over all four seasons.
