Paddy Considine Thinks House Of The Dragon’s Viserys Is His ‘Greatest Character’
By SHANIA RUSSELL
The Targaryens may be the main attraction of “House of the Dragon,” but they’re not always likable. While Daemon may receive most of the hate, King Viserys is no angel — he orders his wife’s death, marries his daughter’s best friend, and is generally weak and ignorant — yet the character remains likable because of Paddy Considine’s marvelous performance.
Paddy Considine’s performance has been the subject of much praise since the premiere of “House of the Dragon,” and the actor tends to agree with his fans. Reflecting on the role, Considine said, “The King Viserys character in ‘House of the Dragon,’ I think that’s probably the greatest character I’ve ever played, in my eyes. The story was right. The character was right.”
Considine’s excellence can be credited to his source of inspiration, and the actor revealed that he was heavily influenced by his memories of his parents while his father was sick with cancer. Considine explained, “I’d put so much of my mum’s characteristics into this character, Viserys, but when I saw [Viserys’ death scene] I thought ‘That’s my dad’ and it was terrifying.”
