One Of Transformers’ Most Famous Lines Was Submitted By A Fan
By DEVIN MEENAN
Before the first “Transformers” release, Paramount Pictures held the online contest “Make Prime Speak,” where entrants could submit a piece of dialogue.
Optimus Prime would then say the winning in the then-upcoming movie. There were various submission types, ranging from jokes to callbacks to original series.
Although “Do a barrel roll!” actually received the most votes, the filmmakers ultimately chose the line, “Freedom is the right of all sentient beings.”
According to his original toy bio, this was Prime’s motto, but it had never been said before Peter Cullen, the character’s voice since the 1980s.
