One Of Ryan Gosling's Least-Popular Films Is One Of His Highest-Rated
By JOE ROBERTS
The 2006 release "Half Nelson" is one of Ryan Gosling's least popular films in terms of public awareness, yet it stands out as one of the highest-rated movies of his career.
"Half Nelson" has earned critical acclaim, with a 91% critic score and an 82% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. This makes it Gosling's second-best-rated movie after "Drive."
The film portrays Gosling as Dan Dunne, a middle school teacher grappling with drug addiction while forming a bond with his student, Drey, played by the excellent Shareeka Epps.
Gosling's portrayal is marked by subtle charisma and depth, reflecting both his beguiling charm and palpable loneliness. It earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor.
The film's critical success is notable given its relative obscurity and limited availability, including no Blu-ray release in the U.S. Luckily, it can be streamed on Peacock.
