One Of Matt Berry's Best Recurring Gags On What We Do In The Shadows Was Improvised
By JENNA BUSCH
If you've watched the FX series "What We Do in the Shadows," you already know about the brilliant improv and comic timing of comedic genius Matt Berry, along with the rest of the cast. Berry plays Laszlo Cravensworth, a sex-crazed British vampire who can turn into a bat.
When Laszlo transforms into the creature, he yells the word, "Bat!" As it turns out, this line was not only improvised, but according to an interview with Polygon, Berry doesn't remember how it happened in the first place.
Though Berry himself couldn’t quite recall where “Bat!” came from, his co-star Natasia Demetriou, who plays Laszlo's wife and fellow bloodsucker Nadja, did. The director told him to “bat away,” to which Berry then yelled “Bat!” and Demetriou recalled that she was "dying with laughter" at the improvised line.
