New Seasons of Doctor Who to Premiere Globally on Disney+ in 2023
By JEREMY MATHAI
In a joint statement, BBC and Disney Branded Television have announced that new and upcoming “Doctor Who” seasons will debut on both BBC and the Disney+ streaming service. Those in the U.K. and Ireland will be able to watch the series on BBC as always, but the rest of the world can look forward to seeing new episodes of “Doctor Who” on Disney+ when it premieres.
Showrunner Russell T. Davies said, “With the vision and joy of the BBC and Disney+ together we can launch the TARDIS all around the planet, reaching a new generation of fans while keeping our traditional home firmly on the BBC in the U.K.” To mark the occasion, Disney and BBC unveiled the new “Doctor Who” logo — a callback to the classic ’70s and ’80s badge.
There is no word yet on how this deal will affect the “Doctor Who” episodes that currently stream on HBO Max, which until now was the U.S. home for the recent seasons of the series. “Doctor Who” is set to return in November of 2023, with Ncuti Gatwa replacing Jodie Whittaker as the newest iteration of the beloved time-traveling space adventurer.
