Netflix Confirms it Will Not Portray Princess Diana's Fatal Crash in The Crown Season 6
By RAFAEL MOTAMAYOR
Netflix’s “The Crown” condenses decades’ worth of history through episodic storytelling that leaps forward through the years; as the show approaches more current events, the tragic death of Diana, Princess of Wales, is nearing. First introduced in Season 4, Emma Corrin’s Diana Spencer explores the start of her story with the royal family.
In a statement, Netflix said, “The exact moment of the crash impact will not be shown,” referring to the fatal car crash that killed both Diana and her partner Dodi Al-Fayed in Paris in 1997. Instead, the series will focus on the events leading up to the incident and the aftermath of the tragedy.
Deadline reported that production members were “dreading getting to this point” and that filming Diana’s death brought a “certain anxiety, a palpable sense of being slightly on edge” to the team. The show will portray Prince Charles arriving in Paris to collect his ex-wife’s body and the racism Mohamad Al-Fayed faced from French authorities as he takes possession of his son’s casket.
