Mrs. Davis Is The Most Audacious New Science Fiction Series Since Westworld

Trying to describe “Mrs. Davis,” the new Peacock TV series from creators Tara Hernandez and Damon Lindelof, would be difficult for any pop culture critic. It’ll be fascinating to see how audiences respond to its half dozen genres and tones, its intermittent mysteriousness, and its exploration of Lindelof’s pet theme of faith versus science, accentuated with outlandish comedy.
Fans of Lindelof's previous work, including “Lost,” “The Leftovers,” and “Watchmen,” will find some of his recurring interests at play; however, Hernandez is the showrunner, and her vision will throw folks expecting something familiar for a loop. Hernandez’s voice is funnier than Lindelof's — a bit more barbed and a whole lot sillier — and has a tone like “Hot Rod.”
In the show, Betty Gilpin plays Simone, a nun in an alternate 2023 where life is ruled by an all-powerful AI named Mrs. Davis. The first two episodes drip-feed Simone’s bizarre backstory, and once she gets in conflict with Mrs. Davis, chaos ensues, and it’s as maddening as it is addictive — but viewers can see for themselves when “Mrs. Davis” debuts on April 20, 2023.
