Matt Smith Reveals The Secret To Daemon Targaryen’s Eternal Youth
By WALTER ROBERTS
Whether you love or hate the time jumps in “House of the Dragon,” no one can deny that the creators’ handling of aging has sometimes been confusing to follow. While Rhaenyra and Alicent have been aged up with new actresses, characters like Matt Smith's Daemon Targaryen haven’t seemed to age, and Smith has some answers.
Although Season 1 spans decades, Daemon Targaryen, who was in his 30s in the first episode, hasn’t seemed to age. Smith has admitted that he had no idea how old his character was supposed to be in some scenes, and he revealed the secrets to Daemon’s agelessness: “He’s always eating his greens. Gets lots of sleep. And doesn’t give a flying f***.”
Daemon’s age is not his only vague quality, and when questioned whether Daemon is a “full-on sociopath or a lovable rogue,” Smith said, “It depends on what side of the bet he gets out on. I think he’s just an agent of chaos …” While Smith thinks “[Daemon] has a sense of duty to his family…”, he’d rather let the audience decipher the character's motives.
