Marvel Execs Weren’t Happy When Joss Whedon Created Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.

After the overwhelming success of "The Avengers," Josh Whedon developed a Marvel show set in the aftermath of the film's events called "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D."
However, the idea of the show ran into problems with Kevin Feige’s plans for the MCU and the then-upcoming film, "Captain America: The Winter Soldier."
In an interview with BuzzFeed News in 2015, Feige recalled what he told Whedon: "You should know that we're destroying S.H.I.E.L.D. in 'Winter Soldier.'"
When "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." was getting started, nobody was sure how closely it would tie into what was happening in the MCU on the big screen, leading to some confusion.
That creative uncertainty and behind-the-scenes confusion fed into the first half of "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." Season 1, as it wasn’t clear what the show was trying to be.
Whedon went on to explain how Marvel Studios hadn’t actually wanted to make the show, but instead, they wanted him to work on "Avengers: Age of Ultron."
The show was left in the hands of his brother Jed Whedon and sister-in-law Maurissa Tancharoen, where it found its groove and became a great show in its own right.
