Maile Flanagan Knows How Much Naruto Signature Phrase Means To Fans
By DEBOPRIYAA DUTTA
Those who have seen “Naruto” are most likely familiar with the titular hero’s catchphrase, “Believe it!” which has been heavily used since its introduction during the Chunin Exams arc. However, there’s another staple saying that still inspires fans today — “Never give up” — and Naruto voice actress Maile Flanagan spoke to Crunchyroll about its power.
Flanagan said, “‘To never give up’ is certainly inspirational. I think it means a lot to people. I do appearances and conventions, and the guy who was helping me out this last week said, ‘Okay, I counted four grown men that cried.’” The show holds a place in the hearts of fans, especially those who closely followed Naruto’s arc since he was a child.
Naruto’s character arc is inspirational for many as he grows from a boy endlessly mocked to a hero. As Flanagan brought Naruto’s character to life in the English dub, she found herself emotionally connected to his journey and his growth as a human being. She even learned something, sharing, “What did it teach me? I don’t know, anything’s possible?”
