Lower Decks’ Newest Ship Is A Touching Tribute To A Star Trek Mainstay

Fabio Passaro, who passed away in October of 2022, was a computer modeler who made 3D models of the many "Star Trek" ships, often used on authorized "Star Trek" magazine covers.
As the CGI designer of Eaglemoss Collection, a defunct model-making service that recreated many "Star Trek" ship models, he had several ships built in reality for the first time.
Of the two "Star Trek" in-universe ships named after him, the "Star Trek: Lower Decks" episode "Old Friends, New Planets" features the U.S.S. Passaro, call number NCC-52670.
When paying Passaro homage in a series of Tweets, "Lower Decks" producer Brad Winters pointed out that the call number of the said ship was Passaro's birthday: May 26, 1970.
Winters also said Passaro was kind and generous when working on "Lower Decks." The "Star Trek: Picard" finale also featured a ship called the Passaro, but very briefly.
