LeVar Burton Only Asked One Question Before Saying ‘Yes’ To Star Trek

After a decade-long hiatus, “Star Trek” returned in 1987 with an entirely new cast to fully embody the creative ideals of creator Gene Roddenberry in “The Next Generation.”
Before the series ever made it to the air, convincing the show's stars of its potential wasn't easy. This fact included Geordi LaForge actor LeVar Burton.
In 2007, Entertainment Weekly published an oral history for the show’s 20th anniversary. The article details Burton’s one condition for joining the show.
Burton, an avid “Star Trek” fan, shared how series producer Bob Justman contacted him for the show. The actor said, “My only question was, 'Is Gene involved?'”
