Leonardo DiCaprio's 15 Best Film, Ranked
By AUDREY FOX
15. Gangs of NY
"Gangs of New York" marks the beginning of Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio's collaboration, and their chemistry is quite evident in the film. DiCaprio is cast opposite Daniel Day-Lewis, and though one can quibble with some of the creative decisions in the movie, both actors deliver
flawless performances.
14. The Man in...
DiCaprio was worried that his status as a Teen Beat cover boy would prevent him from being taken seriously as an actor, so he chose to do a film that gave him a chance to hide his face rather than capitalize on it. He plays the dual role of a sensitive leading man and a darker character in "The Man in the Iron Mask" with aplomb.
13. The Basketball...
DiCaprio plays Jim Carroll, a young high school basketball player whose heroin addiction quickly takes over his entire life. "The Basketball Diaries" is a harrowing film, but DiCaprio's performance stands out, and his overwhelming desperation gives the movie its emotional resonance.
12. Shutter Island
DiCaprio plays Edward "Teddy" Daniels, a confident and authoritative law enforcement officer, but as the story progresses and reality becomes murky, Daniels begins to question his very identity. DiCaprio brings vulnerability and uncertainty to his character, but his portrayal can feel disconcerting to those used to his strong presence and sense of self.
11. Blood Diamond
DiCaprio plays a smuggler from former Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) who agrees to help Solomon Vandy find his missing son in exchange for diamonds. The role incorporates DiCaprio's penchant for flawed heroes, as well as capturing his interest in political activism, and earned him an Academy Award nomination.
