Kurt Russell Hijacked His Tombstone Horse For An Unauthorized Joy Ride
By CHRIS EVANGELISTA
"Tombstone" is perhaps one of the best modern Westerns. It features an all-star cast and retells the story of Wyatt Earp and the infamous Gunfight at the O.K. Corral.
The film stars Kurt Russell as Earp. Russell spoke with Esquire about the film, fondly recalling his time working with his horse and how he took the horse for a joy ride.
According to Russell, his horse in that film was named Sunday and was "a great horse." He added, "I can just remember when we finished all I wanted to do was get on that horse."
Russell continued, "I just turned to the wrangler and I said, 'Nobody can catch me on this thing, so don't bother trying.' And I said, 'I'm going for a ride,' and he said, 'Got it.'"
The actor added, "I just took off and spent about an hour with Sunday, and it was a release." It's easy to picture Russell in full costume, riding his horse under the open sky.
