Knives Out Sequel, Glass Onion, is Heading to Theaters For One Week Only, a Month Early
By JEREMY MATHAI
Rian Johnson’s 2017 whodunnit mystery, “Knives Out,” became a box-office success, providing hope that original ideas not based on existing IPs can thrive in the theaters. However, dreams of additional theatrical releases were shattered after Johnson left Lionsgate to partner with Netflix to produce the franchise’s sequels, including this year’s “Glass Onion.”
In an unprecedented move for Netflix, though, Johnson has announced on Twitter that there will be a special limited engagement where “Glass Onion” will be shown exclusively in theaters for one week at chains such as AMC, Regal, and Cinemark. The limited sneak preview will be held in roughly 600 theaters in one of the three major theater chains during the week of November 23 through 29.
Scott Stuben, Netflix’s Head of Global Film, said, “We’re excited to offer fans an exclusive sneak preview of Rian’s incredible film. Given the excitement surrounding the premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, we hope fans will enjoy this special theatrical event in celebration of the film’s global debut on Netflix in December.” Tickets will go on sale Monday, October 10, 2022.
