Kevin Feige Cast Chris Evans As Captain America Thanks To
Two Pop Culture Icons
By JAMIE GERBER
With the current superhero movie craze, it’s not strange to see the same actor playing two iconic roles, but a previous Marvel role almost cost Chris Evans the role of Captain America. Kevin Feige revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that it was a realization about two pop culture icons that made him reconsider.
Evans had played Johnny Storm, aka the Human Torch, in two lackluster “Fantastic Four” movies, and Feige didn’t even have him in consideration for Captain America at first. However, after other casting attempts proved unsuccessful, he realized, “Patrick Stewart played Jean-Luc Picard and Charles Xavier. Harrison Ford played Han Solo and Indiana Jones. Who cares?”
When people think of Stewart’s roles in the “Star Trek” and “X-Men” franchises and Ford’s roles in the “Star Wars” and “Indiana Jones” films, they can’t imagine other actors playing their roles. It turned out to be the same for Evans, who fully embodied Captain America and had a trilogy that many consider to be the highest quality arc in the MCU.
