Katee Sackhoff Accidentally Got Battlestar Galactica’s Starbuck Killed

In "Battlestar Galactica," Kara (Katee Sackhoff) dies piloting her Viper inside a gas giant but returns light years away from where she died, saying she knows how to find Earth.
Kara/Starbuck brings everyone to their new home in the finale, and after a last talk with Lee, vanishes into thin air. The "Battlestar Galactica" writers didn't have a grand plan.
The writers' room was collaborative — Starbuck's death and resurrection, in particular, were spurred by a simple suggestion from actor Katee Sackhoff, who played the character.
Sackhoff noticed a similarity between a mandala in a temple and one that Starbuck once painted and asked writer-producer David Weddle about them.
Knowing her character had another destiny, Sackhoff suggested that it could be something from her character’s past “that seems innocuous” but now is interpreted differently.
Weddle brought the idea to the writers' room and it wound up being part of a planned episode where Kara and Lee fly over a gas giant planet discussing their "fraught relationship."
