“Justified” captured the snappy repartee and peculiar characterizations of the Elmore Leonard stories on which it was based. The crime drama was also cast to utter perfection.
Fans savored every second they spent in seedy Harlan County and were sad to see it go after six seasons. However, “Justified” was admirably intentional in ending its run.
After setting up the Givens-Crowder feud in Season 1, creator Graham Yost and his writers colored the world with great villains like Katherine Hale, Robert Quarles, and Wynn Duffy.
There was room to stretch out the narrative, but the series was about the two feuding families. It didn't make sense for that captivating rivalry to stretch beyond Season 6.
Yost and his writers stuck the landing as Raylan and Boyd finished the series finale in their fated positions: In a prison with Raylan talking to an incarcerated Boyd behind glass.
Yost said, “Raylan's life was about Raylan and Boyd [...] We didn't want to outstay our welcome.” Boyd is gone, but Raylan will return in the FX series
“Justified: City Primeval.”
