Julia Louis-Dreyfus Used Jerry's Fridge To Solve A Major Seinfeld Problem

Jerry's cramped New York apartment in “Seinfeld” was very realistic, but it was also impractical for shooting as the cast often struggled to find ways to stay busy on the set.
During her appearance on “Hot Ones,” Julia Louis-Dreyfus explained the issues of working on the set of “Seinfeld” and why the refrigerator became a go-to spot for business.
Louis-Dreyfus said, “[A]s soon as you walk into the apartment, what are you supposed to do? [...] You're not just going to come in and sit on the couch every time.”
She continued, “You had the couch, you had the kitchen, and [...] ‘the alleyway,’ which was sort of between the counter and the couch. And that was where a lot of
“I often would go to the refrigerator and just find things, or even just go and look in the refrigerator and not do anything. [...] We had to be creative about it,” she said.
In most episodes of “Seinfeld,” there are countless instances of Louis-Dreyfus’ character Elaine getting a bottle of water, pouring a glass of milk, or staring into the fridge.
Sometimes Elaine’s refrigerator trips were purposeful, such as the “Snapple?” joke in the episode “The Virgin,” but she mostly was occupying her time in a small New York apartment.
