Joker: Folie à Deux Showcases Some Good Taste, Adds Catherine Keener
By JEREMY MATHAI
After "Joker" earned over $1 billion at the box office, it was inevitable for Warner Bros. to give in to the siren call of turning a film that seemed as anti-franchise as possible into a franchise of its own. This time fans will get to witness Joaquin Phoenix alongside Lady Gaga and Brendan Gleeson — in an undisclosed role — in the sequel titled "Joker: Folie à Deux."
Now, one of the most talented character actors in the business, Catherine Keener, has been added to the cast of the "Joker" sequel in what's being described as "a major role." While Keener's addition is certain to raise eyebrows from some interested observers, the casting decision should make sense to anyone who's seen her incredible, Oscar-nominated performance in Spike Jonze's classic "Being John Malkovich."
Rumored to contain "musical elements" and set largely within the confines of Arkham Asylum the sequel seems to have removed all possible guardrails. With more exciting talent likely to be revealed in the coming months, "Joker: Folie à Deux" is expected to arrive in theaters on October 4, 2024.
