John Williams Made An Awkward Mistake On The First Star Wars Film
By MICHAEL BOYLE
In the early days of the galaxy far, far away, when “Star Wars” first graced the silver screen in 1977, it was a time of epic space battles, daring heroes, and a touch of romance.
As he described in an interview with Variety, John Williams made a major mistake when composing the score because he did not know the film’s entire narrative.
Williams confessed his blunder, admitting, “I mistakenly wrote a love theme for Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker.” Little did he know it would be revealed that they were siblings.
In Luke and Leia’s first meeting, the background music hints at romantic intrigue as their dialogue leans into the trope of the hero saving his beautiful damsel.
The renowned composer elaborated on how he partially redeemed himself in the second movie by crafting “a new, non-incestuous theme for Leia” in “The Empire Strikes Back.”
