J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek Timeline Could Still Get One Last Movie
By SANDY SCHAEFER
While new “Star Trek” TV content is available for fans, the franchise hasn’t had a film entry since J.J. Abrams’ 2016 “Star Trek Beyond.”
However, Variety reports that Steve Yockey, the developer of the acclaimed Max series “The Flight Attendant,” is the latest writer on a new project simply called “Star Trek 4.”
In a massive story about the franchise, Variety revealed that Paramount is once again trying to make what it’s referring to as a “final chapter” in the Kelvin timeline film series.
The film would see Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, and John Cho return as the alternate universe/Kelvin timeline versions of the Enterprise’s crew.
According to Variety, the studio is focused on "rightsizing" the price tag after 2016's “Star Trek Beyond” saw its budget sky-rocket to $185 million.
A new movie would be a chance to finally give the Kelvin timeline a proper ending that is more in keeping with “Star Trek's” core values.
