By RAFAEL MOTAMAYOR
Jason Momoa was seen as a big man who could play villains after his breakout role in “Game of Thrones.” Many were surprised when he was cast as Arthur Curry in “Aquaman.”
When speaking with EW, Momoa shared that he auditioned for a villain role in Guardians of the Galaxy, adding, “People always want to hire me to play a villain, you know?”
However, he revealed that he also auditioned for Batman but felt he couldn’t get the part, stating, “I almost didn’t go. I’m not a white guy. I ain’t playing Batman.”
Momoa added that he “played it as if Batman had died in an alley and some thug picked up his suit and put it on. And that’s when Zack [Snyder] was like, ‘I have an idea ...’”
After Snyder offered him the role of Aquaman, Momoa shared, “I was like, ‘What?’ Blonde? Tights? Orange and green shirt? I’m like, ‘I don’t know man, is this a joke?”
Momoa would take the part in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.” His Aquaman remains one of the best and boldest casting for a superhero movie since Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man.
