In Disney’s "Haunted Mansion," Jared Leto's casting as the Hatbox Ghost, a villainous and vengeful spirit intent on collecting souls, is head-scratching on a few different levels.
First, Leto is wholly unrecognizable in the role, thanks to CGI and voice modulation. It’s odd to cast someone of his stature in such a major part only to dramatically alter him.
Another eye-rolling development that further puts his appearance in "Haunted Mansion" into question is that he brought back his obnoxious method acting nonsense, apparently.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the film’s director Justin Simien admitted that, "When I was with him [filming], yeah, he was full-on Hatbox Ghost."
For someone who only really showed up for roughly 10 minutes of screen time, it's hard to understand why such gimmicks would be necessary — much like Leto’s casting overall.
