Jamie Kennedy Learned A Lifelong Lesson From Scream's Rules Scene
By WITNEY SEIBOLD
In a 2021 retrospective, Jamie Kennedy, who played Randy in "Scream," shared a pivotal lesson he learned from filming the iconic Rules scene in Wes Craven's 1996 horror film.
Kennedy was nervous to shoot the "rules" of surviving a horror movie scene, as he understood how important it was to the film's central themes of media obsession.
Despite Craven's satisfaction with the first take, Kennedy requested a second take, feeling there was more he could bring to the scene. Craven obliged and let the camera roll.
Kennedy did three takes in total, and the final cut was used in the film. Later, Craven advised him, "Never be scared to ask for another take, always trust your instincts."
This experience significantly influenced his career. "I'm never scared to ask for another take, to confer with the director. Wes really helped me with that," Kennedy confessed.
