James McAvoy Gave Timothee Chalamet A Key Piece Of Dune Advice
By HOAI-TRAN BUI
When Syfy was known as the Sci Fi Channel, they had made a successful adaptation of "Dune" mini-series that starred a young, baby-faced James McAvoy before his Hollywood breakout.
McAvoy couldn’t be more excited about Denis Villeneuve's take on the film, or for Timothée Chalamet's performance as his former character's father.
While he doesn't have any specific advice for Chalamet as a former "Dune" star, McAvoy has some tips for starring in a heady sci-fi project like "Dune."
"I was in an adaptation of the second and third books. He is in the first book,” McAvoy said about the dialogue of the movie. He then recalled advice he had once been given.
McAvoy said he was told, “The thing with this sh*t, i.e. science fiction, is that you have to believe it more than you believe good writing. Good writing, you can just do.”
He continued to explain that sci-fi is hard “because it's so bonkers.” For the time being, McAvoy is content to move past his days as a son of "Dune" and be a fan instead.
