It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia’s Chardee MacDennis Was Miserable To Make
By SHAE SENNETT
While Rob McElhenney usually enjoys filming “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” with his castmates, that wasn’t the case for the “Chardee MacDennis: The Game of Games” episode.
The Season 7 episode centered on The Gang playing a board game that they invented, but unlike other series entries, the story takes place entirely at Paddy’s Pub.
McElhenney, who plays Mac, found the filming exhausting due to the characters’ aggressive behaviors and the nonstop action of doing a bottle episode without multiple plotlines.
McElhenney told Collider, “[W]e were screaming at each other for the entire thing and we didn’t really have relief.” With the weight he put on, he wasn’t in shape for the shoot.
However, another reason the actor didn’t enjoy the episode was because of his wife Katilin Olson, who plays Dee, and how competitive she becomes when playing games.
Olson told MovieWeb, “The idea for how I was playing it came from Rob McElhenney hating how I actually play a game, because I get really into it and I have to win them.”
