Is The Simpsons’ Duff Beer Really Named After Guns N’ Roses?
By RAFAEL MOTAMAYOR
Like most things in "The Simpsons," there are myths around the creation of Duff Beer, like the belief that it was named after Guns n' Roses bass guitarist Duff McKagan.
The supposed inspiration comes from McKagan's autobiography, "It's So Easy (And Other Lies)," in which he describes being introduced at a concert as "The King of Beers."
McKagan claims a production company then reached out and asked if they could use "Duff" for their fictional beer brand. McKagan wrote, "I laughed and said, of course, no problem."
Creator Matt Groening and writer Mike Reiss refuted the claim in the book "Springfield Confidential: Jokes, Secrets, and Outright Lies from a Lifetime Writing for The Simpsons."
"Jay Kogen came up with Duff. No, it was not named after Duff McKagan," Reiss wrote. "It's a cute and fake story that McKagan tells in his aptly named memoir."
