Hunger Games Star Sam Claflin Says 'Finnick Deserved Better'

Finnick Odair, played by Sam Claflin, was a beloved character from the "Hunger Games" franchise, who won the Hunger Games at just 14. He also saved Katniss Everdeen and others multiple times before his tragic death in "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2," a loss that continues to affect fans and the actor years later.
In a February 2023 interview with Variety, the actor admitted that he knew Finnick was a fan-favorite character and loved his charisma and confidence. Speaking about Finnick's death during the rebellion, Claflin said, "I think Finnick deserved better. But I think he did the right thing. He's a good guy, sacrificing himself for the cause."
Finnick's death is one of the most tragic moments in "The Hunger Games" franchise, and the fact that his wife was pregnant and gave birth to their son alone after his death makes it even sadder. He was one of the bravest characters in the franchise and did the right thing without hesitation — he deserved a happy ending.
