Hugh Jackman's 13 Best Roles That Aren't Wolverine
By LARRY FRIED
Curly (Oklahoma!)
Jackman starred in stage shows before hitting the big screen, and his first major role outside of Australia was Curly in the 1999 “Oklahoma!” revival.
Jackson plays Curly in such a genuine manner that it lessens the harshness of the character’s actions, and he performs Curly’s songs and dances perfectly.
Robert Angier (The Prestige)
Christopher Nolan’s 2006 film “The Prestige” features Jackman as Robert Angier, a magician who descends into madness after his rival kills his wife.
In the end, Angier breaks down as he reveals that he never wanted to inflict misery, but only make people happy, and Jackman plays the devastating moment perfectly.
E. Aster Bunnymund (Rise of the Guardians)
Hugh Jackman uses his natural Australian accent for the role of E. Aster Bunnymund, and he nails not only the character’s cheeky nature, but his vulnerable side as well.
Jean Valjean (Les Misérables)
Tom Hooper's "Les Misérables" draws mixed opinions from fans, but no one can deny Jackson’s powerful performance as the main character, Jean Valjean.
Jackman perfectly portrays the anguish of Valjean and even manages to make the song "What Have I Done?" emotional enough to overcome its lack of flashy visuals.
Roddy St. James (Flushed Away)
Jackman lends a likable quality to the posh rat Roddy, and his performance of the song "Ice Cold Rita" encapsulates both his vocal and acting abilities.
