How To Train Your Dragon Is Getting A Live-Action Adaptation In 2025
By MICHAEL BOYLE
Animation fans and casual moviegoers have received some unexpected news, as it appears that “How to Train Your Dragon” will be getting a 2025 live-action remake. Universal Pictures announced that the film is already well into development and will be overseen by Dean DeBlois, who directed and wrote the beloved original DreamWorks trilogy.
Universal or DeBlois haven’t released any information regarding what fans can expect, but it will most likely be a direct adaptation of the animated series. Hollywood Reporter’s sources revealed that casting is currently underway for the film, with a release date of March 14, 2025. While this is welcome news, some fans have questioned the decision to remake this relatively young franchise.
The “How to Train Your Dragon” trilogy was released from 2010 to 2019 and has grossed a combined $1.6 billion at the box office, garnering critical acclaim with each entry being nominated for the Academy Awards’ Best Animated Feature. The decision might have to do with Disney’s success with live-action remakes that proves fans will go to theaters to see their favorite movies in a new medium.
