The stories and demons from “The Conjuring” universe draw inspiration from many sources, such as “The Nun 2” using the real and tragic tale of Saint Lucy of the Blind.
Lucia, or Lucy, was said to have been born in the year 283 in Syracuse during the Roman Empire and was sold off to a wealthy Pagan family for marriage.
However, after a holy vision claimed her mother would be cured of her blood disease and that Lucy would be “the glory of Syracuse,” she gave up her wealth to the poor.
This decision infuriated her fiance and led to the Governor, Paschasius, ordering Lucy to burn a sacrifice to the emperor’s image, but the future saint refused.
Eventually, the guards who were attempting to carry out her punishment shoved a sword through her throat. Later, different accounts of eye gouging were added to the story.
While elements of her story are featured in “The Nun 2,” it’s unlikely that a descendant of St. Lucy would become a nun who fought demons in the 1950s.
