How Kurt Russell Really Feels About An Escape From New York Remake
By JEREMY SMITH
In a 2007 interview with Entertainment Weekly, Kurt Russell, who played Snake Plissken in "Escape from New York," revealed that he is strongly opposed to the idea of a remake.
He was particularly dismayed by the suggestion that Gerard Butler, a Scottish actor, would reprise his role, arguing that the character is quintessentially American.
Russell stressed that Plissken's character is deeply tied to his identity as an actor, and he would not want to participate in any remake, firmly declaring, "I am Snake Plissken!"
He compared the situation to Sean Connery "watching someone else do their version of Bond," suggesting that watching another actor play Plissken would be intolerable for him.
