the Season 1 finale of "Interview with the Vampire," now streaming on AMC+.
AMC’s “Interview with the Vampire” has made significant departures from Anne Rice’s novel leaving audiences in suspense. Part 1 has focused on the New Orleans half of the story with Lestat, Louis, and Claudia, but with the season finale, we finally have an idea about how the show will approach one character that has thus far been shrouded in mystery: Armand.
The season finale reveals that Armand has been hiding in plain sight all along as Louis’ human familiar, Rashid, but it isn’t until the penultimate episode that Daniel begins suspecting Rashid’s true nature. In the finale, Daniel’s suspicions that Rashid is the 514-year-old vampire Armand are confirmed when Louis grabs Rashid’s hand reintroducing him as Armand, the love of his life.
These words from Louis are ominous, not least because the power imbalance between Armand and Louis seems to mirror Louis’ previous abusive relationship with Lestat. The finale sets up Season 2 with Armand as the next Lestat, leaving the audience with the unsettling question of whether Louis will ever escape the control imposed on him by these powerful vampires.
