How Evil Dead Rise Made The Franchise’s Most Disgusting Monster
Spoiler Warning!
This story contains spoilers for
“Evil Dead Rise.”
“Evil Dead Rise” marks the first entry in the franchise in a decade, and with it comes some new changes and the introduction of the series’ most unique and terrifying monster.
During Beth and Kassie’s escape from the high rise, a creature composed of the remains of the previously dispatched Deadites appears to stop the two from making it to safety.
Director Lee Cronin shared that the amalgamation was mainly created through the use of practical effects and minimal CGI, commenting that “it was damn hard.”
He continued, “We had multiple different elements of the prosthetics that were required, and harnesses, and rigs, and then a lot of time, and a lot of pain.”
Practical effects have been vital to the feel of the franchise since Sam Raimi’s first low-budget entry, “The Evil Dead”; however, there’s more to the creature than just its looks.
The creature tied into the film’s family theme, with Cronin adding, “It’s the worst version of family you can imagine. It’s a story about this subversion of perversion of family.”
