How Community Creator Dan Harmon Secretly Shaped The MCU
By JOE ROBERTS
Dan Harmon, known for creating “Community” and “Rick and Morty,” has had a large yet understated impact on the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
Harmon's talent for attracting key figures like the Russo Brothers directing team and writer Jessica Gao has been a significant factor contributing to the success of projects.
The Russos, known for "Community," were hired by Marvel to lead “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” proving their talent and paving the way for further MCU success.
As noted in the book “MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios,” Marvel has repeatedly hired crew from Harmon's projects, with writer Gao from “Rick and Morty” being the latest example.
Gao would lead the writing and development of “She-Hulk.” “Rick and Morty” writers Jeff Loveness and Michael Waldron were also hired to manage “Avengers 5” and “Loki.”
According to “MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios” by Joanna Robinson, Dave Gonzales, and Gavin Edwards, Harmon himself was recruited and wrote an uncredited “Doctor Strange” script.
Harmon acknowledged Marvel's “coincidental” talent recruitment, telling Vanity Fair: “I feel honored and validated knowing that if people leave me, they're joining Marvel.”
