Here's Why Mission: Impossible 7 Is Called Dead Reckoning
By JEREMY MATHAI
The next big adventure in the “Mission: Impossible” franchise will see Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt in the enigmatically titled film "Dead Reckoning," a two-part cinematic epic. The film’s writer and director Christopher McQuarrie is lifting the curtain and letting audiences in on why he chose that specific title.
In an interview with Empire, McQuarrie revealed that "Dead Reckoning" is a symbol of Ethan's emotional journey. He shared, "'Dead reckoning' is a navigational term. It means you're picking a course based solely on your last known position and that becomes quite the metaphor not only for Ethan, but several characters."
McQuarrie added, “There are many things emerging from Ethan’s past,” and the film’s thrilling trailer teased familiar faces from his past and, potentially, a crisis of conscience over his chosen path as an IMF agent. "Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part 1" is set to arrive in theaters on July 14, 2023.
