Henry Cavill 'Never Expected' The Sherlock Role When He Was Offered Enola Holmes
By MARCOS MELENDEZ
Casting Henry Cavill to play Sherlock Holmes — typically played by less physically imposing figures on the big screen — seems like a bad decision. Even Cavill himself was shocked that he was approached to play the role of the
uber-intelligent detective.
Cavill revealed in the Empire magazine podcast that he was confused after reading the "Enola Holmes" script and wasn't sure why it was sent to him in the first place. Not that it was bad, but it was hard for him to envision himself in any particular role.
He spoke with his agent and found out, much to his surprise, that he was being considered to play Sherlock. Cavill said he was "in love with the story" and felt the emotional connection that Sherlock and Enola shared was "really special."
Fans are used to seeing Cavill in tough-as-nails roles, like Superman or his character in "The Witcher,” and it was a bit hard for some of them to imagine him in a role where he uses his brain and not brawn. However, as it turned out, Cavill was exactly what "Enola Holmes" needed.
