Harrison Ford Removed Old Age Jokes In Indiana Jones 5
By JENNA BUSCH
Screenwriters often hear the “show me, don’t tell me” mantra while writing scripts, as many film critics complain about boring exposition being used in place of visual explanations. According to The Hollywood Reporter, “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” star Harrison Ford felt the same way and spoke about what the publication calls “obvious age jokes” in the new film.
Ford explained, “I hate what I call ‘talking about the story.’ I want to see circumstances in which the audience gets a chance to experience the story, not to be led through the nose with highlights pointed out to them. I’d rather create behavior that is the joke of age rather than talk about it.” The actor also shared that he had the age-related jokes removed from the final script.
Ford debuted as the legendary adventurer in 1981’s “Raiders of the Lost Ark” in his late 30s, and fans understand that the character is older now, so jokes pointing out his age are unnecessary. Although Indy has aged, the trailers for the film feature many action sequences that will surely delight audiences when “Dial of Destiny” hits theaters on June 30, 2023.
