Godzilla Vs. Kong's Mechagodzilla Was A Nod To An '80s Sci-Fi Classic

The design and concept of Mechagodzilla in the 2021 film "Godzilla vs. Kong" are a direct nod to the 1984 sci-fi classic "The Terminator," directed by James Cameron.
Jared Krichevsky from Legacy Effects, the design team behind Mechagodzilla, shared that his chief, John Rosengrant, advised him that "Mechagodzilla has got to be a Terminator."
Mechagodzilla's glowing red eyes, metallic ribcage-like torso, and overall skeletal frame are reminiscent of the Terminator's robotic skeleton beneath its human skin.
According to Krichevsky, the design aims to terrify Godzilla by presenting a robotic version of himself, indicating that "he was about to face something newer and much stronger."
