Godzilla Vs. Kong's Early Scripts Were Much More Brutal To Kong

According to Director Adam Wingard, the early scripts for "Godzilla vs. Kong" were much more brutal towards Kong, reflecting the disparity in power levels between him and Godzilla.
However, as the script developed, Wingard grew fonder of Kong. "You can't help but identify with Kong more. He's more like us," he said, noting Kong's empathy and loneliness.
"I really worried about him. There are certain things in the scripts that came about and were supposed to happen to him and I nixed them. I felt too bad for him," he added.
Wingard's choice to avoid making Kong suffer excessively allowed the character's tragic humanity to shine through without overburdening the story with additional layers of pain.
