Spoiler Warning!
This story contains spoilers for Season 3 of "The Mandalorian."
Season 3 of "The Mandalorian" has yet to show a glimpse of Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito), but the events he put in motion have had a major effect on Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal). Excited to play such an important role, Esposito asked a special favor from series creator Jon Favreau for the character, a part that Favreau specifically wrote for the actor.
In an interview with Star Wars Insider, Esposito revealed, "It was a great honor ... the world of Star Wars is one that I've admired since I was younger, and I've wanted to see films return to that mythological level of storytelling." When Favreau asked him about requests for the character, Esposito replied, "I want to have a cape like Darth Vader."
Fans would agree that there’s something about a cape that signals a big personality, and several iconic characters wear them, including Darth Vader, Lando Calrissian, Count Dooku, and Boba Fett. They flutter and flow, make fight scenes look spectacular, and become a part of the character — one can swish it in anger or make a dramatic entrance or exit with it.
