Getting Natalie Portman Up To Thor's Size Took Some Serious Creativity
By BJ COLANGELO
In Taika Waititi's "Thor: Love and Thunder," Dr. Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) establishes her legacy as the Mighty Thor. In preparation for her role, she had to undergo serious physical training to achieve just the right look for her character.
Portman, who is 5”3 and has always played petite characters, has loved seeing the world react to her bulky physique. However, her shorter stature meant it wasn’t just her physique that required a transformation, but also her height.
In the comics, Mighty Thor stands at six feet tall, something the crew made possible by building an elevated deck for Portman to walk on. In a rather amusing turn of events, the variety of accents in the casts would often make the word “deck” sound very similar to another four-letter word, until it became a running joke.
