George Lucas' Involvement In The New Willow Series Amounted To A Single Conversation
By CAMERON ROY HALL
Disney’s new series “Willow”’ is a high fantasy show that picks up where George Lucas’s 1988 film of the same name left off. Original cast members Warwick Davis and Joanne Whalley return to reprise their roles along with some of the original crew and creative teams; however, notably absent from the show’s development was George Lucas himself.
According to showrunner Jonathan Kasdan, he and Lucas had only a single conversation before “Willow.” Kasdan recalled when Lucas paid a visit to the set of “Solo,” saying, ”He was going to come for just a moment and […] he ended up staying for six hours and answering all our questions and being nothing but lovely.”
Kasdan remembered telling Lucas that he should “tell more Willow stories,” and Lucas “smiled wryly and said he couldn't agree more, and had been trying to make that happen for quite a while.” Although they just had one conversation, Kasdan said that Lucas’ support and excitement were “really critical to feeling like this was something we could go off and do.”
